From One Bold Idea to More Than 40 Years of Innovation
An Idea Takes Root
Salad Savoy Corporation began in 1983, the brainchild of founder John Moore following a trip to Sweden. While visiting a vegetable garden, he was struck by unique varieties he saw and tasted. Through extensive research and development, John created an entirely new vegetable, trademarked it as Salad Savoy®, and named the company after its flagship product.
From Sweden to Salinas, California, where the company calls home today, John was confident Salad Savoy Corporation would become the next big thing. He built a family business around that vision, and Salad Savoy® officially entered the marketplace in 1984. Soon after, Venture magazine recognized it as one of the “100 Best New Ideas of the Year.”
Since launching, the Salad Savoy® family has introduced a distinctive collection of vegetables to the marketplace:

Today, Salad Savoy products can be found far beyond the local supermarket. They are served in QSR restaurants, fine dining establishments, country clubs, educational facilities, and even at sea aboard cruise lines. Salad Savoy has appeared on menus from Panera Bread to Il Fornaio, California Pizza Kitchen to The Capital Grille.
So keep an eye out on your next restaurant visit. Of all the places you can find Salad Savoy, though, our favorite is still your refrigerator.
Honoring Our Founders
We would like to take a moment to truly give thanks to John & Marsha Moore, the original founders of the original ‘home of color, taste & nutrition’. At a point in history where the convenience of value-added items, faster preparations, large-volume orders were the aspiration, one man’s vision of introducing slow-growing nutritional powerhouses to the trade was not the most popular trend at the time. But in developing a laser-focus on top-level nutrition items, and working with seed producers to create colorful varieties for and with us, this vision slowly blossomed into what became first Moore Farming and then eventually the Salad Savoy Corporation as we know it today.
Having grown from one simple item, Salad Savoy Leafy Vegetable, into a suite of colorful nutritious veggies, all the while introducing the most novel items to the industry gathered from around the world, our company has set ourselves apart from the pack. And as we’ve continued to bring new items into our tasty, colorful little corner of the produce industry, we’ve continued to enrich the produce industry with our USA-Grown lineup.
Our continued commitment to upholding the standard of excellence that was set forth by John (aka Johnny Yuma) and Marsha will continue to propel us forward well into the future, and to the next generation. Greatest thanks.
